Character Confession: So Blessed!

I should use this as my confession every week because no matter what, I never want to take for granted how blessed I am. Definitely because I'm all that or I deserve it or earned, it quite the opposite. This week I chose blessed because each day seemed to bring little gifts to my life in one form or another.

Christmas vacation--We had safe travels and good health (aside from my lifting too much and paying the price, but that's another story!). We saw family and just laughed and enjoyed each other. December was quite busy and my husband and I rarely saw each other or were able to be together with the kids. Christmas vacation made up for all of that.

I've Got Mail?--During Thanksgiving vacation our 5 year and I took advantage of my bedrest by sending Christmas cards to every soldier our local paper listed. She drew on every single one. Oh it got silly at times, she wrote "Dad" on some and that required some explaining, but I wrote a message of thanks and prayers to every single one. God gave me a patriotic spirit, I can't explain it. I've always been thankful for the military sacrificing their all for their country.

Well imagine our surprise when we got mail back! I never thought about it, that wasn't why I did it. We received several replies, nice letters, Christmas cards, and even an Airborne patch in return. That's a sacrifice to me. At least one reply came straight from Iraq, one was in America. I'm blown away by this, and so blessed. I'm giving the badge to the 5 year old for her room. Although daddy is a Navy vet, she earned the Army Airborne patch.

The Med Card is back!--It's the first of the year that for me means the return of our health benefits and our medical flex card. Last year we quickly learned our insurance we thought was our option for 2008 was actually not an option, and no one told us until we had an emergency. Although people worked hard to make things right, the new insurance was totally different from what we were used to. It changed everything and by June, our flex benefits were gone. We're an one income family that had an ER visit for strep, and ER visit for possible hernia, plenty of visits regarding my health, prescriptions, and finally the deductible was met with my surgery. Today I needed a precription filled and to use that flex card and have the money be there, it was a blessing.

Speaking of insurance benefits, I See!--Yesterday our son and I went to the eye doctor. I'm ashamed to tell you with contacts after three hours, my eyes snot up. It's graphic, but the best description I have. With glasses, I have a lenses that is cracked and with my clogged eyes, they dry up and stick to my glasses. The frames are bent, my husband says so. I figured with surgery, bed rest, and sweat pants, it is what it is. But new year, now time to get this all looked at. Today my husband goes for his appointment. It's sad, but I am giddy about all of this. Giddy I tell you!

So that's my confession! Thanks Take Root and Write!

Ok, now that you've made me cry about the soldiers (ya big ol' bully!), I just want to say thank you for doing that and for continuing your brilliant and beautiful posts! Blessings!
