NaBloPoMo: Thankful for Moving Time

Moving is not a fun thing to do, but this particular move turned into a blessing.

13 years ago, my husband found himself without work. The company he was working for had closed down, and we were unable to make our bills. We had a savings, but that only lasted us a few months.

We found ourselves asking my father if we could move in with him. It was not easy, as we had to move from one country to another.

We found renters for our home, packed two suitcases each, hopped on a plane and began working in the States. We thought that we would bounce back up on our feet, and planned to stay there six months. Next thing we knew, six months turned into six years.

During that time we purchased a home, and tried many times to sell our home in Costa Rica. It would not sell. After living five years in the states, the Lord began telling speaking to us about moving, again. In our mind we began looking to move out of state. We wanted Colorado or Washington. We soon found out that the Lords ways are not our ways.

In time we found out that the Lord wanted us to move back to Costa Rica. We did not know how this would be possible, but God did it. We soon discovered that the home we purchased in California had risen in value. The home sold quickly, and with the profits we were able to pay off our home in Costa Rica, move with our belongings, not just our suitcases and return to our home, paid in full.

I look back at these six years. While we don't have all the material luxuries, what we do have is ours. Our sleep is peaceful and sound, knowing we don't have a house payment. I shudder to think what would have happened if we stayed in California, sold our home here, only to blow the money on ´stuff´ and still be in debt.

I see the benefits of obeying the Lord, even though we may not understand all His plans. He has a better view of our future than we do.

My encouragement to you is to obey the leading of the Lord. It took us many years to fully understand what His plan was for us, and we could not be more thankful for His guiding in our lives.

Oh the wisdom in that outlook! I wish I could know the joy of being out of debt, but at this point it looks like it would take a miracle.

Then again, I know a God who can do miracles...

Thanks for the encouragement, and the reminder that we don't need half the "stuff" we've got!
